Condoms are not a perfect, foolproof contraception method. Spermicidal condoms have an added layer of protection from pregnancy in the form of spermicidal lubricant. The spermicidal lubricant contains a small amount of nonoxynol-9 spermicide.
Nonoxynol-9 spermicide should not be used in excessive amounts because it can damage skin cell layers in the vaginal lining and can cause inflammation of the vagina and cervix.
